The security situation in the Middle East is very unstable
Israel is surrounded by much upheaval and turmoil. To our north, Hezbollah is active in amassing cutting edge weapons, threatening Israel and getting ready for the day it will attack. In Syria, both Russia and Iran are involved in aiding the regime against rebels in a horrific civil war. Iran’s strategy is to try to create a presence on our northern border with Syria. In our south, ISIS is very present in the Sinai Peninsula, and of course, there is Hamas in the Gaza strip.
We read 2Chro 20 It is clear from that story that prayer changed the outcome of the war! It is also clear that the enemy’s sheer number and its strength were overwhelming and raised a real and great danger to Judah (2Chro 20:3, 12)
So it is today!
In His prayer, Jehoshaphat:
God’s answer was to confuse the enemy. They turned one against the other (this is happening in a great measure today as well) and defeated themselves. That is how Judah won the battle.
Psa. 83:16 Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD.Psa. 83:17 Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, Psa. 83:18 That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.
Praying for our country’s leaders
In Ezekiel’s vision of the end-times, God speaks to him about the leaders. They were to care for the people and provide a covering for them.
Ezek. 45:8 …..My princes shall no more oppress My people, but they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel, according to their tribes.” Ezek. 45:9 “Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Enough, O princes of Israel! Remove violence and plundering, execute justice and righteousness, and stop dispossessing My people,” says the Lord GOD.
Ezek. 45:17 Then it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the feasts, the New Moons, the Sabbaths, and at all the appointed seasons of the house of Israel. He shall prepare the sin offering, the grain offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings to make atonement for the house of Israel.”
Luke 21:24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
Rom. 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
The verse in Luke speaks of the political restoration of Israel to the land. Romans speaks of the spiritual restoration of the Jews to God.
In Luke, we see the end of the rule of the Gentiles over the land of Israel, in Romans we see the fullness of the Gentiles gathered unto the Lord. A wonderful prospect!
Ex. 39:42 According to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work. Ex. 39:43 Then Moses looked over all the work, and indeed they had done it; as the LORD had commanded, just so they had done it. And Moses blessed them.Ex. 40:34 Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
When all the work for the Tabernacle was done, Moses inspected it and found that it was all done according the the will of God, the pattern, God had shown Moses. They obeyed and built it according to God’s Word. When they assembled it all, adhering to the Lord’s instructions, God filled it with His Glory!

So it is today!
In His prayer, Jehoshaphat:
- Confesses God’s greatness as God in the heavens and ruler of kingdoms (2Chro 20:6)
- Reminds the Lord that we are His people and that it was He who gave us the land (2Chro 20:7)
- Establishes that God had committed Himself to hear the cries of His people when they came to His house
- Pleads with God for the need of Judah to be helped in this war.
God’s answer was to confuse the enemy. They turned one against the other (this is happening in a great measure today as well) and defeated themselves. That is how Judah won the battle.
- We prayed for the Lord’s protection of Israel’s borders, especially in the north
- We prayed for God’s sovereign will regarding Russia’s involvement in Syria
- We prayed for wisdom to be given our nation’s leaders as they deal with developments.
- We prayed for the confusing of the evil intents of those nations who are bent on our destruction

- We prayed for a leadership that would be truly imbued with a true sense of justice and compassion to care for the people.
- We prayed for a breaking of the hold the religious parties have over the coalition, as they force the government to back off from laws that would bring equity and equality for the citizens of Israel.
- We prayed for great wisdom for our leaders as they deal with the leaders of the superpowers, the US and Russia. And as they navigate the treacherous waters of Middle East politics
Luke 21:24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

- We prayed for the gathering of the Jews to the Land from exile (the diaspora)
- We prayed into the contested issue of the land itself (the world does not recognize Israel’s historic right to return to the land of promise.)
- We prayed into the motion presented by the Palestinians to UNESCO to declare Hebron a Palestinian world heritage site. Including the burial cave there where our forefathers are buried.
- We prayed for the spiritual restoration of the Jewish people to God through Yeshua their Messiah and King. (Reveal your son, O Lord!)
Ex. 39:42 According to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work. - We prayed for the Body of Messiah to conform to the Pattern in the Word
- We prayed for the Body of Messiah to be cleansed, revived, and filled with God
- We prayed for the revival of the Word of God in the the Body.
- We prayed for a healthy body, fitting for the head — Yeshua.
