“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1:14
Thus the Word of God announces the incarnation of Yeshua. The brief and straightforward manner is mind-boggling; bereft of detail and explanation, it is unbearably succinct.
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:18
Again, in one sentence, one of the greatest of all wonders and mysteries is described.
Anyone with a bit of life experience would either fall into doubt and turn away, or begin to feel weak-kneed at the hearing of such a statement.
Only a little child can receive, believe, and embrace this! We must become child-like to accept the report. I do not speak of mere mental acquiescence, but of the opening of the heart to the wonder of such a sight – God has become flesh.
Perhaps if the Lord were to reveal the glory and wonder of the incarnation in its fullness, we would find ourselves unable to bear it. Truly, we must be transformed in order to behold such glory and such love.
And this brings us to another mystery, a second wonder:
“I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” Galatians 4:19
Messiah formed in us? “How shall this be?”, we might ask as Mary did.
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,” Gabriel said to Mary; and so it will be with us.
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2Corinthians 3:18
Our transformation will be by the Spirit of the Lord, by the power of the death and resurrection of Messiah, and by the wisdom and power of God.
“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1John 3:2
This is the pinnacle of the Incarnation: He came to dwell among us, that we might dwell with Him; He came in the form of man, that we might be conformed to God; He came and died as man, that we might live forever in God.
Glory, Glory, Glory to the Lamb, God in flesh incarnate, Messiah and Savior!
